State Bicycle Co. - Carbon Seatpost — 27.2mm / 400mm / 0mm Setback
Takes the edge off the road, not the power
current price, £76.00
179 grams. Zero setback. Every rail standard covered.
Most riders never think about their seatpost until they're chasing a creak or fighting a saddle angle that won't hold. This one is built so you don't have to think about it. Gloss black unidirectional carbon, a clamp head that actually adjusts, and hardware in the box for whichever saddle you're running.
At 179g it's roughly a third lighter than the alloy post it's replacing — the cheapest real weight you'll ever buy on a bike.
Why carbon here matters
The seatpost is one of the few places on a bike where carbon does something you can actually feel. On a 27.2mm post there's a long, unsupported span between the seat collar and your saddle, and that span flexes. Carbon flexes on a different curve than aluminum — it gives on sharp, high-frequency hits and stiffens up when you put power down.
Translation: chatter from broken pavement, gravel washboard, and chipseal gets filtered before it reaches you. Long days hurt less. Nothing is lost when you stand up and sprint.
That's also why 27.2 is the diameter endurance and gravel frames keep coming back to. It's the skinniest common standard, so it's the one with the most give built in.
The head
Saddle angle on a lot of posts is a coin flip — you get one position, or the next one over, and nothing in between. This head uses a single central bolt with a rocking cradle, so angle is continuously adjustable rather than stepped. Set it where you want it, torque it once, and it stays.
Loosening one bolt also means fore/aft and tilt adjust together, on the bike, without pulling the saddle off or hunting for a second Allen key.
Both rail standards, both sets of hardware
Saddle rails come in two shapes and most posts only ship the hardware for one:
- 7mm round — steel, titanium, and chromoly rails. The standard on most saddles.
- 7x9mm oval — carbon rails. What you'll find on higher-end and lightweight saddles.
Both cradle sets are in the box. Swap saddles, run whatever you want, no adapter kit to hunt down six months from now.
Zero setback — and why you might want it
This post is inline: the saddle clamp sits directly over the post's centerline, with no rearward offset.
Choose inline if: your frame has a steep seat tube angle, you ride gravel or endurance and prefer a slightly forward position, you've been running a setback post slammed all the way forward on its rails, or you want more room to fine-tune fore/aft without maxing out the clamp.
Look elsewhere if: you're currently running a setback post with the saddle already pushed to the back of its rails. Going inline will move you forward roughly 20–25mm, and you may not be able to get it back.
Not sure? Measure the horizontal distance from the center of your bottom bracket to the nose of your saddle on your current setup, then check it again after you swap. That number is what you're trying to preserve.
Fitment
- Seat tube diameter: 27.2mm. Frames with a 30.9mm or 31.6mm seat tube will need a shim, sold separately.
- Length: 400mm — long enough for large frames and riders with a lot of post showing.
- Saddle rails: 7mm round or 7x9mm oval.
Check your frame's minimum insertion before you cut anything, and confirm the post reaches at least that depth at your saddle height.

Installation
Carbon posts are easy to install correctly and easy to damage by guessing. Three rules:
- Use a torque wrench. Not a feel for it. Not "one more click." Follow the torque values marked on the post and on your frame's seat collar, and use the lower of the two.
- Use carbon assembly paste, not grease. Paste adds grip so the post holds at lower clamping force — which is the whole point.
- Respect minimum insertion. The line on the post is not a suggestion.
If you're not set up for torque work, this is a ten-minute job at any shop.

FAQ
Rider-owned in Phoenix, AZ since 2009. 5-year frame warranty on steel, aluminum & titanium · most in-stock bikes ship in 1 business day · 4.8/5 from 16,000+ reviews.
How does my bike show up, and do I need a shop?
That depends on how you order it:
- With Pro-Build (select models: $79.99, or $129.99 on Carbon Road). Our mechanics in Phoenix face the frame, set up and bleed the hydraulic brakes, index the drivetrain, cut the steerer to our stock length and torque-check everything before it goes in the box. That's the shop work that usually runs $150–$300 locally. You bolt on the bars, seatpost, front wheel and pedals, set your hoods and wrap your tape: about 20–30 minutes with a hex set and a torque wrench. Pro-Build adds a 1–2 week build queue.
- Without Pro-Build. Your bike ships mostly assembled, but it needs a full assembly and tune by a professional mechanic before it's ride-ready. Carbon, titanium and AXS builds that skip Pro-Build arrive unassembled with an uncut steerer, so your shop can build them to your exact fit.
Either way, a professional build is safer, rides better, and unlocks our better warranty tier (see below).
What does the warranty cover?
Every State bike comes with our Standard Limited Warranty against manufacturing defects for the original owner. No registration required.
- Steel, aluminum & titanium frames and forks: 5 years
- Carbon frames and forks: 1 year (2 years with ProBuild Advantage)
- Non-consumable parts (cranks, wheels, hubs, bars, stem, seatpost, pedals): 1 year
Not covered: wear items (tires, tubes, chains, brake pads, grips, bar tape, saddles, spokes, paint), rust on RAW finishes, crash damage, and labor or shipping costs. Full warranty details
What is ProBuild Advantage, and how do I get it?
It's our "you did it right" warranty tier for bikes that were professionally assembled and registered within 30 days of delivery. You get everything in the Standard warranty, plus:
- 2 years on carbon frames and forks, instead of 1
- Priority claim review: ProBuild claims go to the front of the line
- Faster help with shifting or braking issues, without the "did you tighten that bolt?" back-and-forth
- Shipping perks on approved warranty replacement parts
- Discounted pricing on a replacement frame or bike for up to 5 years from delivery, if a crash wins
To activate it: add Pro-Build when you order, or have a local shop assemble your bike and keep the receipt. Then register your bike within 30 days of delivery with your serial number (engraved under the bottom bracket shell) and proof of assembly. If you ordered Pro-Build, our mechanics already did the build. You just register.
When will my bike ship?
Most in-stock bikes ship within 1 business day, and you'll get tracking as soon as yours is on its way. Adding Pro-Build puts your bike in our build queue for 1–2 weeks before it ships. Shipping is calculated at checkout from your location and the size of your order, and bikes go out by UPS or FedEx Ground.
Outside the U.S.? We ship worldwide, and duties and taxes are paid at checkout, so nothing is due on delivery. Shipping policy
What if it's not right? Returns & exchanges
You have 30 days from delivery to request a return or exchange. Bikes need to be unused, in like-new condition and in their original packaging.
- Refunds: a return label fee is deducted ($45 for complete bikes), and original shipping isn't refundable.
- Exchanges: issued as store credit. The return label fee applies here too.
- Package Protection Plan (add it at checkout): covers loss and damage in transit, removes return label fees and deductions, and extends the window for exchanges and store credit to 60 days. Refunds stay at 30 days.
Pro-Build and other service work can't be refunded once it's done. Final sale, clearance and limited-run items can't be returned, and neither can international orders.
Can I pay over time, or use HSA/FSA funds?
Yes. Financing with Bread Pay splits your bike into monthly payments, and you can pay it off early with no penalty (subject to credit approval). You may also be able to use pre-tax HSA/FSA dollars through Truemed. A short intake at checkout checks your eligibility, which depends on your plan. HSA/FSA guide
Which size do I need?
Geometry charts, size guides and full build specs for every model are on our Size Charts & Specs page. Between sizes, or running a tall stack or long stem? Get in touch before you order. Pro-Build cuts the steerer to our stock length, and that can't be undone.
Can I see one in person or get it built locally?
Use our dealer & shop locator to find a shop near you for a look in person, assembly or a tune-up.
