Tough as nails and ready for anything, the State Bicycle Co. 4130 Trail Mountain Bike is a no-BS trail machine designed to crush climbs, rip descents, and handle whatever you throw at it. Whether you're slashing singletrack, hammering urban shortcuts, or packing up for an epic bikepacking trip, this bike is built to send it.
Choose Your Fork
This is the biggest decision on the page, and it changes far more than weight. Going rigid doesn't just delete the squish — it turns the 4130 Trail into a different category of bike. Read the handling note below the cards before you pick.
RockShox Psylo Silver RC — 130mm
This is the trail bike. 130mm of travel, 35mm uppers, a Motion Control damper and a Solo Air spring — at this price you'd normally get spindly stanchions and a shrug of a damper. Keeps the slack 65° front end that lets you point it down steep, chunky, rooted ground and stay off the brakes.
- Travel: 130mm
- Axle-to-crown: 550mm
- Offset: 44mm
- Steerer: Tapered 1-1/8" to 1.5"
- Weight: 5 lb 12 oz
- Mounts: None
Carbon Rigid Fork
This is the one that transforms the bike. 563 grams takes more than four pounds off the front end — you feel it the instant you lift the front wheel, and on every climb after. Carbon damps the high-frequency buzz that makes rigid forks tiring on hardpack. Combined with the shorter axle-to-crown, it's the fastest, liveliest version of this bike: a genuine all-terrain machine for dirt roads, bikepacking, and big mixed-surface days.
- Axle-to-crown: 495mm
- Offset: 49mm
- Steerer: Tapered 1-1/8" to 1.5"
- Weight: 563g (1 lb 6 oz with axle)
- Mounts: 3 cargo per leg · rack (no fender mounts)
- Standard: ISO 4210-M passed
$100 less than suspension · 4 lb 6 oz lighter
4130 Chromoly Rigid Fork
This turns the Trail into a loaded ATB. Five cargo mounts per leg plus fender and rack mounts — more places to bolt gear than any fork we make. The shorter axle-to-crown drops the front end, so the bike sits lower and steers quicker: a dirt-road and bikepacking machine that still holds its own on singletrack. Steel takes abuse, shrugs off a scratch, costs the least to replace, and never needs a service.
- Axle-to-crown: 492mm
- Offset: 50mm
- Steerer: Straight 1-1/8" (30mm cone included)
- Weight: 4 lb 0 oz
- Mounts: 5 cargo per leg · fender · rack
- Rider limit: 120kg
$300 less than suspension · 1 lb 12 oz lighter
For riders who already have a fork they love, or who are building something specific. You get the complete bike, fully specced, minus the fork and headset crown race. Everything else is identical.
- Head tube: Tapered
- Front hub spacing: 15 x 110mm Boost
- Designed around: 550mm axle-to-crown
- Brakes: 180mm rotor — check your fork's mount
- Not included: Fork, thru-axle, crown race
$400 less than suspension
What you get is not a trail bike with the suspension taken off. It's a different bike: lighter, quicker-steering, and far more efficient everywhere that isn't a steep technical descent — dirt roads, doubletrack, bikepacking routes, hardpack singletrack, and the commute in between. That's an all-terrain bike, and it's exactly what these forks are for.
Pick suspension if you ride rough, steep, technical ground and want the slack 65° geometry the reviews above describe. Pick rigid if you want a fast, light, go-anywhere bike that you'll ride further than you meant to.
Both rigid forks ship with a 300mm uncut steerer and a 15 x 110mm thru-axle. The steel fork also includes the 30mm cone it needs to fit the tapered head tube, and a 180mm brake adaptor.
▸
This frame is drawn around the 550mm axle-to-crown of the RockShox Psylo Silver RC, and that is the build our published 65° geometry describes. Both rigid forks are shorter — 495mm carbon, 492mm steel — so the front end sits lower, the head angle steepens, and the bike turns into something quicker. Here is how far it moves.

What actually changes
- Head angle steepens about 2.5° (carbon) or 2.7° (steel) — 65° becomes roughly 67.5°.
- Stack drops about 20mm. The front end sits lower, and you may want a spacer or two back under the stem.
- Reach grows about 28mm. This is the one people miss: a rigid build rides noticeably longer. If you are between sizes, it argues for the smaller one.
- Bottom bracket drops about 19mm, to roughly 297mm. Lower and more planted, with less pedal clearance over rocks.
- Trail falls from 125mm to about 100mm. The shorter fork and its longer offset work in the same direction, and this — more than the head angle — is why the rigid bike steers so much faster.
Suspension geometry is quoted with the fork fully extended, as published. Geometry is measured with a 29 x 2.4" tire. Full published geometry for the suspension build is on our geometry chart.
Quick Features
- Progressive Trail Geometry: A slack 65° head angle, low-slung top tube, and long front-center keep things stable when the trail gets rowdy while maintaining playful agility in the corners.
- Double-Butted 4130 Chromoly Steel Frame: Tougher than aluminum and smoother than carbon, our double-butted 4130 Chromoly frame absorbs trail chatter and takes a beating without flinching.
- Four Fork Options: RockShox Psylo Silver RC 130mm suspension, rigid carbon, rigid steel, or no fork at all. One frame, four very different bikes — see Choose Your Fork above.
- Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH): Future-proofed for modern drivetrain tech and easier maintenance, because you shouldn't be stressing parts availability.
- Internal Dropper Routing: 31.6mm seat tube with internal routing — or skip the routing entirely and go wireless. Both options below.
- Threaded Bottom Bracket (73mm BSA): Reliable, creak-free, and easy to service.
- More Mounting Points: Triple bottle cage mounts on the downtube — because adventure doesn't come with limits.

Choose Your Handlebar
- 770mm wide, 35mm clamp — wide and stable for all-mountain control
- Paired with an SBC 3D-forged alloy stem, short and responsive
- UD carbon with a chatter-absorbing layup — the bar is where trail buzz reaches your hands
- Anti-fatigue geometry for long days
- The upgrade you feel on every ride, not just the rough ones

- Fork: Your choice — see Choose Your Fork above
- Drivetrain: 1x11 MicroShift XLE
- Crankset: SBC 32T narrow-wide, 165mm, direct mount
- Cassette: 11–46T

Max Tire Clearance
- Frame: 29" up to 2.6" / 27.5" up to 3.0"
- Suspension fork: 29" up to 2.6"
- Rigid steel fork: 29" up to 3.0"

The rigid forks clear more rubber than the frame does — on a matched pair of tires the frame's 2.6" rear is the limit for the whole bike.
⚠️ Assembly Required: This bike ships partially unassembled and will require crank installation, wheel installation, and fork setup (the steerer tube comes uncut). It will also need general setup and tuning, including derailleur indexing and limit screw adjustment. We strongly recommend professional assembly to ensure the safest and highest quality ride experience.

FAQ
Rider-owned in Phoenix, AZ since 2009. 5-year frame warranty on steel, aluminum & titanium · most in-stock bikes ship in 1 business day · 4.8/5 from 16,000+ reviews.
How does my bike show up, and do I need a shop?
That depends on how you order it:
- With Pro-Build (select models: $79.99, or $129.99 on Carbon Road). Our mechanics in Phoenix face the frame, set up and bleed the hydraulic brakes, index the drivetrain, cut the steerer to our stock length and torque-check everything before it goes in the box. That's the shop work that usually runs $150–$300 locally. You bolt on the bars, seatpost, front wheel and pedals, set your hoods and wrap your tape: about 20–30 minutes with a hex set and a torque wrench. Pro-Build adds a 1–2 week build queue.
- Without Pro-Build. Your bike ships mostly assembled, but it needs a full assembly and tune by a professional mechanic before it's ride-ready. Carbon, titanium and AXS builds that skip Pro-Build arrive unassembled with an uncut steerer, so your shop can build them to your exact fit.
Either way, a professional build is safer, rides better, and unlocks our better warranty tier (see below).
What does the warranty cover?
Every State bike comes with our Standard Limited Warranty against manufacturing defects for the original owner. No registration required.
- Steel, aluminum & titanium frames and forks: 5 years
- Carbon frames and forks: 1 year (2 years with ProBuild Advantage)
- Non-consumable parts (cranks, wheels, hubs, bars, stem, seatpost, pedals): 1 year
Not covered: wear items (tires, tubes, chains, brake pads, grips, bar tape, saddles, spokes, paint), rust on RAW finishes, crash damage, and labor or shipping costs. Full warranty details
What is ProBuild Advantage, and how do I get it?
It's our "you did it right" warranty tier for bikes that were professionally assembled and registered within 30 days of delivery. You get everything in the Standard warranty, plus:
- 2 years on carbon frames and forks, instead of 1
- Priority claim review: ProBuild claims go to the front of the line
- Faster help with shifting or braking issues, without the "did you tighten that bolt?" back-and-forth
- Shipping perks on approved warranty replacement parts
- Discounted pricing on a replacement frame or bike for up to 5 years from delivery, if a crash wins
To activate it: add Pro-Build when you order, or have a local shop assemble your bike and keep the receipt. Then register your bike within 30 days of delivery with your serial number (engraved under the bottom bracket shell) and proof of assembly. If you ordered Pro-Build, our mechanics already did the build. You just register.
When will my bike ship?
Most in-stock bikes ship within 1 business day, and you'll get tracking as soon as yours is on its way. Adding Pro-Build puts your bike in our build queue for 1–2 weeks before it ships. Shipping is calculated at checkout from your location and the size of your order, and bikes go out by UPS or FedEx Ground.
Outside the U.S.? We ship worldwide, and duties and taxes are paid at checkout, so nothing is due on delivery. Shipping policy
What if it's not right? Returns & exchanges
You have 30 days from delivery to request a return or exchange. Bikes need to be unused, in like-new condition and in their original packaging.
- Refunds: a return label fee is deducted ($45 for complete bikes), and original shipping isn't refundable.
- Exchanges: issued as store credit. The return label fee applies here too.
- Package Protection Plan (add it at checkout): covers loss and damage in transit, removes return label fees and deductions, and extends the window for exchanges and store credit to 60 days. Refunds stay at 30 days.
Pro-Build and other service work can't be refunded once it's done. Final sale, clearance and limited-run items can't be returned, and neither can international orders.
Can I pay over time, or use HSA/FSA funds?
Yes. Financing with Bread Pay splits your bike into monthly payments, and you can pay it off early with no penalty (subject to credit approval). You may also be able to use pre-tax HSA/FSA dollars through Truemed. A short intake at checkout checks your eligibility, which depends on your plan. HSA/FSA guide
Which size do I need?
Geometry charts, size guides and full build specs for every model are on our Size Charts & Specs page. Between sizes, or running a tall stack or long stem? Get in touch before you order. Pro-Build cuts the steerer to our stock length, and that can't be undone.
Can I see one in person or get it built locally?
Use our dealer & shop locator to find a shop near you for a look in person, assembly or a tune-up.
